Choose our “Ultimate Dark Sky Tour” option any day during the Jasper Dark Sky Festival for the most complete tour we offer: Start in our domed theatre and afterwards take-in our telescope experience. THEN hop in your vehicle to follow one of our local astronomy guides to our specially-selected dark-sky site for a laser-guided binocular tour of constellations, the Milky Way and maybe even a shooting star from the unspoiled Rocky Mountain wilderness.

NOTE: We do not provide transportation to the planetarium or from the planetarium to our dark sky site.

Ever wish you could “drive” a spaceship? What about traveling through time? We get so many requests to let you – the audience member – control the planetarium, we’ve decided to turn the universe over to you! On select days during the Jasper Dark Sky Festival, join us in our domed theatre for a 35-45-minute session where you tell us what planet, space station, moon, comet, star or other cosmic destination (or dimension) you’d like to go to and we’ll take you there! (Don’t have any ideas? Don’t worry, we’ve got some back-pocket ideas to start off with.) You may even get a chance to take the controls of the planetarium (er, ‘universe’) yourself!

NOTE: This is a planetarium ONLY activity and does not include telescopes. This activity is different from our other planetarium offerings later in the evening.

Blast off with astronomy experts from The Jasper Planetarium for an exclusive dining and stargazing experience atop the Jasper Skytram. Your SkyTram flight will take you nearly 1 km closer to the stars above, to the Skytram Upper Station. Next, enjoy a 3-course dinner with the best view in Jasper from high on a mountaintop! Then, you’ll have the chance to look through the most powerful telescopes in the Canadian Rockies, under the darkest skies in the Rockies. Join a guided tour of the Solar System, learning about planets, galaxies, and constellations, and if you’re lucky, you might even see a meteor or the Northern Lights! You’ll also have a chance to attend a special talk on Canada’s dark skies or a quick workshop about how to photograph objects in the night sky with your DSLR camera.

*Weather-permitting. In the event the skies are clouded-over, an extended indoor portion will take place at the Upper Skytram Station and we’ll have the chance to explore the Athabasca River Valley (including the town of Jasper) through our telescopes on the mountain. Being 1,000 metres higher than Jasper, the Skytram upper station is usually 10° cooler than in town. So bring warm layers to enjoy the outdoor star gazing portions of the evening.

NOTE** RETURN FLIGHTS RUN AT BOTH 9:30 and 10:30 pm.
