The safest way to keep individuals from contracting or spreading COVID-19 is to eliminate or reduce physical contact. Physical distancing involves taking steps to limit the number of people you come into close contact with. This is not the same as isolation, but you do need to avoid being in close contact with people. Face coverings that fully cover one’s nose, mouth and chin are mandatory in the town of Jasper:
- On the west side of Connaught Drive between Hazel Avenue and Aspen Avenue;
- On Patricia Street between Hazel Avenue and Pyramid Lake Road;
- On all connecting public sidewalks between those streets;
- On all public sidewalks where a 2-metre distance cannot be maintained; and
- In all public indoor spaces, including all businesses, facilities, patios and indoor areas that are open to the public.
There are several exceptions to this municipal bylaw, including children under two, people prevented from wearing a face covering due to medical conditions, and people eating or drinking while at assigned seating within the establishment from which they obtained the food or drink. People do not have to prove that they are medically exempt from wearing a mask. We will continue to monitor AHS updates and the current environment which may result in the tightening or loosening of certain policies.
